BUONACCORSO (BONACURSUS) of MILANO. - A figure of the second half of the 12th century, he was active among the Cathar heretics of Milano as a teacher or doctor of their doctrine. Having returned to the faith, he publicly denounced the errors of the sect; at a time when the esoteric teaching of Catharism and its factions was known to outsiders only fragmentarily, the Manifestatio of B., committed to writing, served as the basis for Catholic controversialists in compiling, between 1176 and 1190, a manual of scriptural refutation which also combats the errors of the Passaginians (v.) and the Arnaldists (v. ARNALDO da BRESCIA). B.’s brief but detailed exposition constitutes an early and valuable source both for the various doctrinal tenets of the Lombard Cathar currents and for their mythical representations.
