COLLAZIONE

COLLATION. — In ecclesiastical, especially juridical, language, this term primarily denotes the second stage in the provision of an ecclesiastical office, namely the conferral of the office (in the case of benefices, one speaks of collatio tituli) upon the person designated to become the holder of the office itself (see PROVISION; CANONICAL VIEW); it is also used (but only in Latin: collatio) to denote formal conferences (see CONFERENCES), and to indicate the comparison of texts in a trial (collatio testium: see TESTIMONY).
