Collation

COLLAZIONE. – In ecclesiastical language, especially in legal usage, this term primarily denotes the second stage in the provision of an ecclesiastical office, namely the conferral of the office (in the case of benefices, collatio tituli) upon the person designated to become the holder of that office (v. PROVVISTA CANONICA); it is also used (but only in Latin: collatio) to denote deanery conferences (v. CONFERENZE), and to indicate the comparison of texts in a trial (collatio testium: V. TESTIMONE).
