COLLATIO LEGUM MOSAICARUM ET ROMANARUM. - Anonymous pamphlet that compares, in 16 titles, articles of the Old Testament, especially on criminal matters, with the similar provisions of Roman law, concluding in favor of the priority of the former, indeed the dependence of the latter on them.
It is a bold application in the field of law of the method already widely used by apologists with regard to moral and philosophical doctrines. It is doubtful whether it was compiled in the early years of the 4th century or between the end of the 4th century and the beginning of the 5th. Its author has been sought in Jerome, Ambrose, Rufinus or the Jew Isaac, but without plausible proof. Perhaps the work has not come down to us complete. The title in the manuscripts is Lex Dei; the current one was given by the editors.
It was discovered in the 16th century, and published first by Pithou, then by various others, among them Th. Mommsen, in Collectio librorum iuris anteinstinianei, III, Berlin 1890, p. 136 ff.
