CLAUDIUS SEVERUS. – Rhetorician and Peripatetic philosopher, teacher of Marcus Aurelius, who speaks of him with honor in his Meditations (1, 14). He must also be the C. S. to whom Fronto commends Sulpicius Cornelianus as his friend. His son bore the same name, married a daughter of Marcus Aurelius, and was consul in 163 and 173. He too was a Peripatetic philosopher and patron of Galen.
