COMANA. - An Armenian city of Asia Minor, in the province of Pontus. It was famous in paganism as a city under the theocratic government of the goddess Enyo-Ma; its temples are also mentioned by Strabo. It was one of the most ancient cities of Pontic Asia, with an episcopal see: it has been much celebrated for the holiness of numerous of its bishops. C. of Lesser Armenia is different from the homonymous city of Cappadocia, which was also an episcopal see.
