COMANA. – An Armenian city in Asia Minor, “in the province of Pontus.” It was famous in paganism as the seat of a theocratic government of the goddess Enyo-Ma; its temples are also mentioned by Strabo. It was one of the oldest cities of Pontic Asia, with a bishop’s see: it was much celebrated for the holiness of many of its bishops. C. of Lesser Armenia is different from the homonymous city of Cappadocia, which was also a bishop’s see.
