COMMONWEAL. – Weekly journal founded on 12 November 1924 in New York by Michael Williams, an ingenious writer and essayist, born in Halifax (Canada) in 1877.
It deals with broad documentation and agility with questions in which Catholic thought and life are interested; it also frequently publishes literary compositions and poems. Among its editors and co-editors, Henry Longan Stuart (d. 1928), an acute and brilliant critic, of Scottish origin, proficient in many languages and translator of Claudel’s Letters to a Doubter, and the poet Thomas Walsh (d. 1928) should be remembered.
