Giuseppe D'AMATO. — Barnabite, born in Naples on 18 Sept. 1758, died at Monlha (Maumalach) in April 1832. Missionary from 1783 in the kingdoms of Ava and Pegù, in Burma; a perfect master of the Pali language and Burmese customs, he devoted himself among the natives as both physician and surgeon.
A collection of his, comprising 300 plants and flowers... etc., in 4 vols. in-folio (2 of text and 2 of plates painted by himself), along with manuscripts on moral theology and science, was lost. His rich zoological museum passed to Captain Burney, his friend.
