DENYSE (DENISE, de NYSE, Dionysii), NICHOLAS. - Theologian, born at Beuzeville in Normandy around the mid-15th century, died at Rouen on 18 May 1590. Already a canon and vicar in the diocese of Coutances, he entered the Observant Franciscans after 1470 in the convent of Valognes, distinguishing himself for his learning and virtue.
Among his works are remembered: the *Opus in quattuor libros Sententiarum* or *Resolutio theologorum* (ed. Rouen, late 15th–early 16th c., 1504–1506; Paris 1573, etc.) and the *Summa* or *Gemmata praedicantium*, as well as various collections of sermons. D. died in a reputation for holiness, and the people accorded him the title of blessed.
