DUGUET, JACQUES-JOSEPH. - Jansenist theologian, b. at Montbrison, 9 Dec. 1649, d. at Paris, 25 Oct. 1733. An Oratorian, teacher of philosophy and positive theology, he left the Congregation in 1685, attracted by Jansenist innovations, which he went on to spread in Brussels, where he became a friend of Arnauld and Quesnell.
He wrote many exegetical works on the Old and New Testament according to the principles set forth in the Règles pour l'intelligence des Saintes Ecritures (Paris 1716), in which he indulges the figurative and moral sense: Traité des scrupules (ibid. 1717); Conduite d'une dame chrétienne pour vivre saintement dans le monde (ibid. 1725).
