DUGNANI, ANTONIO. - Cardinal, b. in Milan on 8 June 1748, d. in Rome on 17 Oct. 1818. After having held in the Curia the offices of consistorial advocate and auditor of the camerlengo, he was appointed by Pius VI, on 11 Apr. 1785, titular archbishop of Rhodes.
Sent therefore as nuncio to France in 1789, he had to return to Rome a few years later because of the Revolution. On 21 Febr. 1794 he was created cardinal by Pius VI and assigned to Ravenna as legate, where he remained until the French occupation of that province. Having returned once again to Rome, he received from Pius VII the office of prefect of the Segnatura di giustizia and was moreover a member of various other Congregations. Suburbicarian bishop first of Albano, then of Porto and Santa Rufina, he administered his dioceses with great zeal.
