ANTONIO DUGNANI. — Cardinal, born in Milan on 8 June 1748, died in Rome on 17 October 1818. After holding in the Curia the offices of conciliatory advocate and auditor of the camerlengo, he was appointed by Pius VI, on 11 April 1785, titular archbishop of Rhodes.
Sent as nuncio to France in 1789, he was obliged a few years later to return to Rome because of the Revolution. On 21 February 1794 he was created cardinal by Pius VI and assigned to Ravenna as legate, where he remained until the French occupation of that province. Returning once more to Rome, he received from Pius VI the office of prefect of the Segnatura di giustizia and was also a member of various other Congregations. He was first suburbicarian bishop of Albano, then of Porto and Santa Rufina, and administered his dioceses with great zeal.
