DELISLE, LÉOPOLD-VICTOR. - Historian, born at Valognes on 24 Oct. 1826, died at Chantilly on 22 July 1910. In 1847 he entered the École des Chartes, and in 1852 was entrusted with the care of the Manuscript Cabinet at the Bibliothèque Nationale in Paris, which he catalogued in a three-volume work published in Paris from 1868 to 1881 (*Cabinet des manuscrits de la Bibliothèque Impériale*).
He produced numerous catalogues and bibliographical bulletins, which earned him the title of prince of librarians.
Among his many other works, chiefly on liturgy and palaeography, the following deserve special mention: *Mémoire sur d'anciens sacramentaires* (Paris 1886), of great value to liturgists, and *Mémoire sur l'école calligraphique de Tours au IXe siècle* (ibid. 1895).
