DE LITIO, ANDREA. - Abruzzese painter of the second half of the fifteenth century. In the church of S. Maria Maggiore in Guardiagrele there is a fresco with the image of St. Christopher bearing his name and the date 1473.
On the basis of stylistic comparisons, the cycle of frescoes covering the vault and walls of the main chapel of the cathedral of Atri has been attributed to the same painter, with the figures of the Evangelists and the Doctors of the Church, and with scenes from the life of the Virgin. The work, fairly unified despite the evident intervention of assistants, reveals a lively personality, formed through contact with the Ferrarese and Umbrian-Marches currents. A few isolated frescoes in the same cathedral belong to him, as does one in S. Agostino, also in Atri, and a few other works in Abruzzo are attributed to him, though on weaker grounds.
