DIONISI, GIAN GIACOMO. — Philologist and scholar, born in Verona on 22 July 1734, died there on 14 April 1808.
Canon and librarian of the Veronese Chapter, he left valuable studies on Dante, collected in a Serie di aneddoti (7 fascicles, Verona 1785–99); he also edited a good edition of the Divina Commedia (Parma 1795). His studies on Petrarch, on the other hand, summarized in the work Dei vicendevoli amori di M. F. Petrarca e della celebratissima Madonna Laura (Verona 1802), displeased Bettinelli. Among his historical essays, the following deserve mention: Della zecca di Verona e delle sue antiche monete (Bologna 1785), Vite dei santi martiri e vescovi veronesi (Verona 1786).
