DIONYSIUS of Luxembourg. — He entered the Capuchins of the Rhenish province on 1 May 1669, and died at Cochem on 11 February 1703.
A preacher of wide renown, he also wrote many polemical, catechetical, ascetical and hagiographical works, including: *Leben Antichristi* (ibid. 1682), which inspired various literary and dramatic compositions; *Legend der Heiligen* (ibid. 1685); *Der grosse marianische Calender* (Augsburg-Dillingen 1685); *Grosser Cathechismus* (Mainz 1698); *Die güldene Regent von unser lieben Frauen* (ibid. 1699); etc. These works, repeatedly reprinted, enjoyed wide circulation, especially those of an ascetical nature for the spontaneous freshness of their popular style. He avoided and opposed the literary exaggerations of the Baroque.
