DIONYSIUS OF LUXEMBOURG. - He entered the Capuchins of the Rhenish province on May 1, 1669, died at Kochem on February 11, 1703.
A preacher of wide renown, he also wrote many polemical, catechetical, ascetic and hagiographic works, among them: Leben Antichristi (ibid. 1682), which inspired various literary and dramatic compositions; Legend der Heiligen (ibid. 1685); Der grosse marianische Calender (Augsburg-Dillingen 1685); Grosser Cathechismus (Mainz 1698); Die güldene Legend von unser lieben Frauen (ibid. 1699); etc. In repeated editions they enjoyed a wide circulation, especially those of an ascetic character, on account of the spontaneous freshness of their popular style. He avoided and combated the literary exaggerations of the Baroque.
