ERICO (Heiricus) of Auxerre. — Benedictine scholar, b. in 841, d. in 876. At the age of seven he entered the monastery of S. Germano of Auxerre and attended the schools of Ferrières, Laon, and Soissons. Returning to Auxerre, he studied theology under Almone, and later became a teacher there.
Preserved among his works, in addition to several historical writings, are collections of Excerpta from various classical authors and Glosses on logical writings. His principal work is the life in verse of S. Germano of Auxerre (ed. Acta Sanctorum Iulii, VII, pp. 221–55; PL 124, 1131–1208; MGH, Poetae, III, pp. 421–517).
