FIORENZO, saint. - Bishop of Strasbourg, who lived in the 6th century and died about 600. The legendary element abounds in the Vitae, all of them late (from the 12th century onward). His Irish origin is now rejected by critics. He founded the monasteries of Haslach (Alsace) and of St. Thomas in Strasbourg, which later became a Collegiate church. He succeeded St. Arbogasto in the see of Strasbourg (ca. 560-600). Buried at St. Thomas, in 810 his relics were transferred to Haslach. Popular cult in Alsace, extending as far as the
