GIORDANIA. – Recent designation indicating the Kingdom of Transjordan.
When, on 25 May 1946, the emir ʿAbdallāh assumed the title of king and, on 27 June 1946, the treaty with England was ratified, the name Transjordan was changed to “Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan,” or more briefly, Jordan.
