GIORGI SICULO. - Sicilian Anabaptist heretic of the 16th century. Information about his life is extremely scarce. Around 1550 he was probably already in Ferrara, where he preached against the "Lutherans." There, in the early days of April of the same year, he was arrested on account of his heretical doctrines, and on 23 May he was executed.

Of G. S.'s many books, the only one that seems to have survived is Epistola di G. S. servo fidele di Jesu Christo alli cittadini di Riva di Trento contra il mendatio di Francesco Spiera et false dottrina de' protestanti (Bologna 1550). In it one discerns a mixture of rationalistic and mystical motifs analogous to that of Servetus, corresponding on the one hand to the common motifs of the culture of the age with its confidence in the possibilities of the human mind, and on the other to the "spiritual" religiosity of Valdes.

The identification made by some of G. S. with Renato Camillo (v.) must be discarded.
