GIROLAMO dai LIBRI. - Painter, b. in Verona in 1474, d. there on 2 July 1555. He began his artistic training under the guidance of his father Francesco, a calligrapher and miniaturist of Gothic taste; later he came under the influence of his fellow citizen Domenico Morone, of Mantegna, and of Montagna, creating for himself an agreeable repertory of somewhat subdued, yet graceful types.
A sure draftsman, he introduced into the Veronese school a new chromatic charm, though without attaining results of profound poetic expression. Most of his works are found in the Museo civico and in the churches of Verona; worthy of mention among them are the Madonna e i santi in S. Paolo di Campo Marzio (1526), the altarpiece of SS. Nazzaro e Celso, and the Madonna in S. Anastasia (1512).
