JEROME DAI LIBRI. - Painter, b. in Verona in 1474, d. there on 2 July 1555. He took up art under the guidance of his father Francesco, a calligrapher and illuminator of Gothic taste; later he came under the influence of his fellow citizen Domenico Morone, of Mantegna and of Montagna, creating for himself a pleasing repertoire of somewhat lifeless but charming types.

A sure modeller, he introduced into the Veronese school a new chromatic grace, but without attaining results of profound poetic expression. The majority of his works are to be found in the Museo civico and in the churches of Verona; among them mention should be made of the Madonna and Saints in S. Paolo di Campo Marzio (1526), the altarpiece of Sts. Nazarius and Celsus and the Madonna of S. Anastasia (1512).
