GIROLAMO da CREMONA. – Lombard painter active between 1467 and 1483, initially under the influence of local miniaturists, and later of Mantegna and Liberale da Verona.
Few are his panel works, among which a typical example is the *Saviour with Four Saints* in the cathedral of Viterbo (1472); numerous instead are the miniatures, executed by him for the cathedral of Mantua and for the Library of the cathedral of Siena; some are also preserved in foreign museums. G. da C. attempted to transfer into the essentially analytical technique of the miniaturists the modes of large-scale painting, not without swollen contours and masses, but displaying notable inventive gifts and a deep, brilliant colouring.
