GIROLAMO DA BRESCIA

GIROLAMO da BRESCIA. - Benedictine architect, born in the second half of the 15th century and active in the early years of the 16th century. Architect of the cloister of S. Giustina in Padua, in 1501 he also provided the model for the church.

However, he was only able to conduct the construction up to 1504; among his successors, after Sebastiano da Lugano (1515), was that Andrea Riccio who in 1516 provided another model. He is said to have died in Parenzo, where he was obtaining stones for the construction of the church. It has also been supposed that he may be the same person remembered as the “head master mason” of S. Benedetto in Ferrara.
