GIROLAMO da BRESCIA. – Benedictine architect, born in the second half of the 15th century and active in the early years of the 16th. Architect of the cloister of S. Giustina in Padua, in 1501 he also provided the design for the church.
But he was able to carry out the construction only until 1504; among his successors, after Sebastiano da Lugano (1515), was Andrea Riccio, who in 1516 provided another design. He is said to have died at Parenzo, where he had gone to quarry stone for the construction of the church. It has also been supposed that he may have been the same person who is mentioned as the “master chief mason” of S. Benedetto in Ferrara.
