GUIGONE II (Guigues). – General prior of the Carthusians, born at the beginning of the 12th century. Having entered the Carthusians, he distinguished himself by virtue and learning, so much so that he was elected general prior. He resigned from the high office in 1176 and died in the odor of sanctity on 27 September 1188.
He is the author of the ascetical work entitled *Liber de tripertito exercitio cellae* (PL 153, 787–884). Another work, which appears among those of St Augustine, may also be attributed to him: *Scala Paradisi* or *Tractatus de modo orandi et de vita contemplativa* (PL 40, 996–1004).
