GUIGONE II (GUIGUES). - Prior general of the Carthusians, b. at the beginning of the 12th century. Having entered the Carthusians, he distinguished himself there by virtue and learning, so much so that he was elected prior general. He resigned the high office in 1176 and d. in the odour of sanctity on 27 Sept. 1188.
He is the author of the ascetical work entitled Liber de quatriperito exercitio cellae (PL 153, 787-884). Perhaps another work should also be attributed to him, which appears among those of St. Augustine: Scala Paradisi seu Tractatus de modo orandi et de vita contemplativa (PL 40, 996-1004).
