GUILLORÉ, FRANÇOIS. - Jesuit, master of the spiritual life, b. 25 Dec. 1615 at Croisic (Nantes), d. in Paris on 29 June 1684. Having asked the father general to be assigned to rural missions, he saw his wish granted, and from 1656 he was occupied in spiritual ministries and in preaching.
In 1673, transferred to the novitiate of Paris, he spent the rest of his days there in confessions, in spiritual direction within and outside the community, and in confraternities and charitable associations (such as that of the magistrates in Paris), works of preservation, of assistance to prisoners, similar to the future societies of St. Vincent.
G. is numbered among the most eminent spiritual authors of the 17th century; his works, with many editions, versions and reprints, had already reached, during his lifetime, 60,000 copies.
