Ilhéos, Diocese of. City and diocese in the State of Bahia in Brazil, erected by Pope Pius X on 20 Oct. 1913 by separating territory from the archdiocese of San Salvatore of Bahia, of which it is a suffragan.
The diocese has an area of 57,210 sq. km. with 65,000 inhabitants, of whom 64,800 are Catholic. It has 37 parishes with 21 diocesan priests and 9 religious, 1 seminary, 2 male and 3 female religious communities (1949).
