IRISH MONTHLY. — Irish Catholic monthly journal, founded in July 1873, intended for laypeople and rich in various contributions presented in a lucid and brilliant style.
It received considerable impetus from the Jesuit Fr. M. Russel (1834–1912), its first editor, who enlisted distinguished figures from the fields of thought and literature as contributors, including non-Catholics: among others, the writer Oscar Wilde, who first came to prominence through this journal.
