ISIDORO di MILETO. — Name of two architects. I. THE ELDER was active during the 6th century in Constantinople, together with Artemio di Tralle; placed under his authority, he is said to have participated in the construction of the church of S. Sofia. He is remembered above all as an outstanding technician and mathematician.
The activity of I. THE YOUNGER, nephew of the preceding, likewise an architect active in Constantinople in the 6th century, is more clearly defined and circumscribed. His works include the reconstruction of the dome of S. Sofia, which collapsed following the earthquake of 558; the architecture of the church of the SS. Apostoli, also in Constantinople; and many buildings at Zenobia on the Euphrates.
