Kirkuk, Diocese of

KERKÜK, DIOCESE of. – Episcopal see of ‘Irāq, dating from the 4th century. The Chaldean Catholic diocese was founded there in 1798. There are 9,000 Catholics in a total population of 300,500 inhabitants; 9 parishes; 11 priests; 20 schools with 1,280 pupils.
