KERKÜK, DIOCESE OF. – An episcopal see in Iraq, existing since the 4th century. The Chaldean Catholic diocese was established there in 1798. There are 9,000 Catholics in a total population of 300,500; 9 parishes; 11 priests; 20 schools with 1,280 pupils.
