COSMA DA CARBONIANO (Der Gomidas Kennmurjian), Blessed. - Armenian, b. in Constantinople in 1656; d. in 1707. Married and parish priest of the dissident church of St. George in his native city, he passed with his family to Catholicism ca. 1696, at a moment when the far too numerous reconciliations of the Armenians with the Roman Church were spreading alarm among the dissidents. Accused in 1707 before the Turkish authorities as a European agent subverting the peace among peoples, the vizier condemned him, albeit reluctantly, to decapitation. He was beatified in 1929; feast on 5 Nov.
