KORHOGO, PREFECTURE APOSTOLIC OF. - In the northern part of the Ivory Coast, erected as an apostolic prefecture in 1911, detaching its territory from the vicariate of the Ivory Coast, today Abidjan (v.); it has an area of 148,521 sq km and a population of 1,000,000 inhabitants.

The progress of the apostolate there is rather slow, given the fetishism, which has a strong organization there, the great influence of Islam and polygamy. The mission is directed by the fathers of the Society of African Missions. Catholics number 11,021 and catechumens 3,010 (1949), distributed in 10 quasi-parishes, 1 primary station and 315 secondary ones. Working there are 22 fathers and one brother of the African missions, and 17 European sisters, assisted by 104 indigenous catechists. There are 13 schools, all primary, with 901 pupils, 4 orphanages with 80 children and 9 dispensaries.
