LAODICEA (Laodicea Combusta) in Licaonia. — A whole series of Christian inscriptions has been found there, important also for the hierarchy; the most notable among them is that of the bishop Marco Giulio Eugenio, son of Cirillo Celere of Couessos, senator of L., who, after having served in the officium of the governor of Pisidia at the time of the persecution of Massimino, had been forced to abandon military service and undergo tortures inflicted on him by the governor Diogene; he was promoted to the episcopate of L. and governed it for 25 years, rebuilding and decorating the church and its adjuncts.
