LARDITO, JUAN BAPTISTA. – Benedictine theologian, born in Madrid around 1650, where he died around 1720. In 1691 he received the first chair of theology at the University of Salamanca; he was royal theologian for the Immaculate Conception and, for several years, general abbot of the Benedictine Congregation of Valladolid (1705–1709); after relinquishing the office of general, he governed the Abbey of S. Martino in Madrid (1709–13).
His theological work tended to demonstrate the agreement between s. Anselmo and s. Tommaso: S. Anselmi uterque liber Cur Deus homo necnon alius de incarnatione Verbi et fide Trinitatis scholiis et commentariis illustratus (Salamanca 1699); De summa Trinitate et voluntate Dei eiusque visione beata (there 1700); De peccatis in communi et in particulari (there 1703). He wrote other works of lesser importance.
