LAZARUS OF PARB (PHARPI; PARBETZI). - Armenian author, priest, b. ca. 440, author of a history of the Armenian people, a continuation of that of Faustus of Byzantium, that is, from 384 to 485.

Inserted in this work is the story of the vision of St. Sahak the patriarch, whose genuineness and historicity the authors doubt. At the end there is the letter of L. addressed to the prince Vahan, to clear himself of calumnies inflicted on him, where the society of the time is described in dark colors of moral decadence, especially on account of the ignorance of the clergy.

The work of L. is a precious source for the Armenian history of his times, because of the realistic and sincere sense of the narrator, who drew from eyewitnesses and from reliable traditions.
