LELONG, JACQUES. - Oratorian, biblical scholar and bibliographer, b. in Paris on 19 April 1664 and d. there on 13 August 1721. Librarian of the Oratory of St. Honoré, L. worked there zealously for 22 years, expanding the precious collection of books and compiling catalogues of it.
Noteworthy are the following two works of a bibliographical nature: Bibliotheca sacra seu syllabus omnium ferme sacrae Scripturae editionum ac revisionum (2 vols., Paris 1709; updated later, up to 1778-90, it still constitutes the richest bibliographical mine on the subject); Bibliothèque historique de la France (definitive edition in Paris in 1768-78).
