LELONG, JACQUES. – Oratorian, biblical scholar, and bibliographer, born in Paris on 19 April 1664 and died there on 13 August 1721. Librarian of the Oratory of St Honoré, L. worked there zealously for 22 years, enlarging the valuable collection of books and compiling its catalogues.
The following two works of a bibliographical nature are noteworthy: Bibliotheca sacra seu syllabus omnium ferme sacrae Scripturae editionum ac revisionum (2 vols., Paris 1709; subsequently updated through 1778–90, it still constitutes the richest bibliographical resource on the subject); Bibliothèque historique de la France (definitive edition, Paris 1768–78).
