MANTELLONE. — M. (Magnus mantellus, “large mantle”) is a long, floor-length, sleeveless cassock-like garment, entirely open down the front, with four wide lateral slits: two for the arms and two for the hands to pass through to the undergarment or skirt. It has a low collar that encircles the neck and fastens at the front with a small hook. From the arm openings hang, along the entire length of the garment, two narrow, false sleeves without openings; these are attached to the back at the shoulder line.
