MONUMENTA SERICA. - A publication, issued annually, of high-level Sinological scholarship, founded in 1935 by Fr. F. Saverio Biallas, S.V.D., and edited under the auspices of the Catholic University of Peking.
Its aim is to present extensive and abundant material for the study of the peoples, languages, and culture of China and neighboring countries, including the fields of ethnology and prehistory. In addition to monographic articles based on original research, MONUMENTA SERICA contains shorter miscellaneous notes, translations of sources and texts of particular importance, book reviews, and surveys of periodicals relevant in any way to Sinology.
Up to 1940, thirteen volumes had been published. MONUMENTA SERICA also includes a separate series of monographs and more extensive studies.
