**NONNA, Saint.** — She is commemorated by the Greeks and Latins on August 5. A woman of outstanding virtues, pious, charitable, and strongly devoted to religion, she converted her husband to Catholicism, who later became Bishop of Nazianzus.
Her marriage was blessed with three children, all three venerated as saints, among whom St. Gregory Nazianzen stands out. In his writings, Gregory repeatedly left explicit and affectionate testimony to his mother’s virtues. She died almost a centenarian in 374, shortly after her husband.
