NOVARO, ANGELO-SILVIO. - Writer and poet, b. at Diano Marina on 12 Nov. 1868, d. at Imperia on 10 March 1938.
Novaro soon began his literary activity, finding his finest inspiration in the death of his son Jacopo, who fell young in the First World War. He was an artist of refined form, which in his best works, such as the prose of *Il fabbro armonioso* (Milan 1919) and the lyrics of *Piccolo Orfeo* (ibid. 1929), achieves discreetly spiritual accents. A writer of delicate and introspective vein, he proved especially effective in composing for children, pouring his finest qualities into the subtle correspondences and vignettes of a child’s world. Among his other works to be recalled are the poems of *Il cestello* (ibid. 1910), the tales of *La bottega dello stregone* (ibid. 1910), and the prose of *Dio è qui* (ibid. 1926). In the lyric poem *La Madre di Gesù* (ibid. 1936) he evoked the life of the Virgin with accents of sincere emotion.
