HOSPITALLER OF OUR LADY OF CHARITY. - Institute founded in Dijon in 1682 by the Ven. B. Joly.

In Aug. 1694 the Constitutions were approved by the bishop of Langres (the diocese of Dijon is more recent) and on 25 Feb. the first professions took place. The development of the Institute was delayed by the French Revolution. The decree of praise is dated 3 March 1869.But immediately afterward the communities of Châtillon-sur-Seine and Vitteaux made themselves independent, and the community of Dijon itself split in 1904 because of lay interference in the election of the superior. The Institute was reunited on July 16, 1928, and had its own constitutions. The sisters devote themselves to the care of the sick in hospitals and clinics and to every other hospital activity. In 1948 they numbered 65, with 6 novices and 6 houses.
