HOSPITALLER OF SAINT THOMAS OF VILLANOVA. - Nel 1661 l'agostiniano Angelo Le Proust fondò a Lamballe (diocesi di Quimper) una pia associazione di signore che si assumero l'obbligo della visita agli ammalati a domicilio e negli ospedali.The Association soon transformed into a religious institute under the Augustinian Rule and received the decree of praise on July 27, 1860, that of approval of the Institute on July 26, 1873, and temporary approval of the Constitutions in 1924: the definitive one dates from May 21, 1935. The sisters devote themselves to the care of the sick and also run orphanages for girls and rehabilitation homes for fallen or at-risk women. The generalate house is in Paris. In 1949 the sisters numbered 750, with 25 novices, distributed among 1943 houses.
