POOR SISTERS OF BUENOS AIRES OF SAINT JOSEPH. - The work began on 28 Jan. 1880, when Mother Camila Rolón, with the approval of the archbishop of Buenos Aires, gathered in Mercedes some good women for the care of poor children, especially in the countryside.

After its first successful beginnings the work grew, embracing also works of assistance to the poor, the re-education of young women, and visits to the sick at home, spreading throughout all of Argentina and abroad. It received the decree of praise on 16 June 1891, and that of definitive approval on 8 May 1898. At present there are 187 sisters distributed among 26 houses.
