POOR SISTERS OF BUENOS AIRES OF ST JOSEPH. – The work began on 28 January 1880, when Mother Camila Rolón, with the approval of the Archbishop of Buenos Aires, gathered some good women at Mercedes for the care of poor children, especially in the countryside.
After these promising beginnings the work expanded to include assistance to the poor, the re-education of young women, and home visits to the sick, spreading throughout Argentina and abroad. It received the decree of praise on 16 June 1891 and final approval on 8 May 1898. There are now 187 sisters distributed in 26 houses.
