POVERE SUORE DELLE SCUOLE DI NOSTRA SIGNORA (MONACO). – The Institute was founded in Regensburg in 1833 through the efforts of Msgr. G. M. Wittmann, parish priest and later bishop of that city.
He was assisted and succeeded by the priest Sebastiano Job, who also provided the Association with a first summary rule of life. The purpose of the Institute is to establish elementary schools in rural areas for the education and instruction of the rural youth, and in small cities and villages.
Spread throughout many parts of the world, it received the decree of praise on 23 January 1853 and definitive approval on 26 August 1865. Today it has 10,582 sisters and 748 houses.
