POOR SISTERS OF THE SCHOOLS OF OUR LADY (MUNICH). - The Institute was founded in Regensburg in 1833, through the work of Msgr. G. M. Wittmann, parish priest and later bishop of that city.

It had as its collaborator and successor the priest Sebastian Job, who also gave the Association a first summary rule of life. The purpose of the Institute is elementary schools in the countryside for the education and instruction of peasant youth, in small towns and villages.

Spread throughout many parts of the world, it received the decree of praise on 23 Jan. 1853, and definitive approval on 26 Aug. 1865. Today it has 10,582 sisters and 748 houses.
