REGOLARI

REGULARS. - Conventional and invariable numbers that served to find certain dates; there were three kinds of r., namely the solar r. (regulares solis), the lunar r. (regulares lunae) and the r. of Easter (regulares Paschae).

Added to the figure of the concurrents of the year, the solar r., which were twelve, gave the feria of the first of the month; the lunar r., on the other hand, served to find the age of the moon on the first day of each month, according to the formula: epact - lunar r. = age of the moon; the r. of Easter, then, seven in number, corresponding to the ferial letters (v. LETTERA DOMENICALE), were used to know on which day the xiv of the moon of March fell, that is, the so-called terminus paschalis, necessary for establishing the date of Easter.
