Salé, Diocese of

SALE, DIOCESE of. — It is situated in the State of Victoria (Australia) and was erected on 10 May 1887 with territory detached from the archdiocese of Melbourne, of which it was declared a suffragan.

It comprises Gippsland. It has an area of 26,312 sq. km, with a population of 69,000. Catholics number 18,000, the remainder being Protestants. Diocesan priests 23, religious 3, brothers 11, sisters 102. Districts 15, churches 59. Primary schools 14, secondary schools 4.
