SAINT JOHN OF QUÉBEC (Saint Jean), DIOCESE OF
City and diocese in the province of Québec (Canada).
The Diocese of Saint John of Québec was erected by Pius XI on 9 June 1933 by separating it from the Diocese of Montréal. It comprises five districts: Saint-Jean, Napierville, Laprairie, Chambly, and Verchères. The Catholic population numbers 109,212 souls served by 114 diocesan priests and 62 religious. Within the diocese there are 2 classical colleges, 59 churches or chapels, 2 hospitals, 7 asylums and hospices, and 1 agricultural school.
