The diocese of S. G. di Q. was erected by Pius XI on 9 June 1933 through the dismemberment of that of Montréal and comprises five districts: St-Jean, Naperville, Laprairie, Chambly, and Verchères. The Catholic population numbers 109,212 souls, cared for by 144 diocesan priests and 62 religious. In the diocese there are 2 classical colleges, 59 churches or chapels, 2 hospitals, 7 orphanages and hospices, and 1 agricultural school.
