SAINT JÉRÔME (Saint-Jérôme-de-Terrebonne), Diocese of. - City and diocese in the province of Quebec (Canada).

There are 80,078 Catholics, 112 diocesan priests, 19 regular priests, 9 seminarians, 142 brothers and 445 religious sisters. Among the institutions there are 42 parishes, 15 missions, 1 minor seminary, 1 normal school, 1 family institute, 6 hospitals, homes for the elderly and orphanages.

The diocese was erected by Pope Pius XII with the apostolic constitution Ad catholicum nomen of 23 June 1951, by dismemberment of forty parishes from the dioceses of Montreal, Ottawa and Mont-Laurier in the counties of Argenteuil, Deux-Montagnes and Terrebonne, elevating to the rank and dignity of cathedral the church in honor of St. Jerome in the city of St-Jérôme, chosen as the episcopal see. The diocese is a suffragan of Montreal. The Minor Seminary of St. Teresa, founded in 1825, is regarded in French Canada as one of the best for classical education.
