SAN LUIGI (SAN LUIS) POTOSÍ, DIOCESE OF. Diocese and capital city of the homonymous state in Mexico.
Over an area of 12,000 sq. km., it has a population of 420,589 inhabitants, of whom 419,803 are Catholics distributed across 55 parishes served by 160 diocesan priests and 4 regular clergy; it has a seminary, 6 male religious communities, and 43 female ones (Ann. Pont. 1952, p. 357). The diocese was erected by Pius IX in 1854 as a suffragan of Linares, now Monterrey.
