SAN LUIGI (SAN LUIS) POTOSI, DIOCESE of. – Diocese and capital city of the Mexican state of the same name.

Over an area of 12,000 sq km, it has a population of 420,589 inhabitants, of whom 419,803 are Catholics, distributed among 55 parishes served by 160 diocesan and 4 regular priests; it has one seminary, 6 male and 43 female religious communities (Ann. Pont. 1952, p. 357). The diocese was erected by Pius IX in 1854 as a suffragan of Linares, now Monterrey.
