SAN LUIS, DIOCESE OF ARGENTINA. - City and diocese of the province of the same name in the Argentine Republic.

It has an area of 70,000 sq km with a population of 180,000 inhabitants, of whom 177,300 are Catholics; it has 13 parishes, served by 31 diocesan priests and 9 regulars; it has a seminary, 2 male religious communities and 7 female ones (Ann. Pont. 1952, p. 357). The diocese was erected by Pope Pius XI with the apostolic constitution Nobilis Argentiniae nationis of 20 April 1934, as a suffragan of the archdiocese of S. Giovanni di Cuyo. The Cathedral is dedicated to the Immaculate Conception.
