SAN LUIGI (SAN LUIS) DI ARGENTINA, DIOCESI of. — City and diocese of the eponymous province in the Argentine Republic.
It has an area of 70,000 sq. km. and a population of 180,000 inhabitants, of whom 177,300 are Catholics; it has 13 parishes, served by 31 diocesan priests and 9 religious priests; it has a seminary, 2 male and 7 female religious communities (Ann. Pont. 1952, p. 357). The diocese was erected by Pope Pius XI by the apostolic constitution Nobilis Argentiniae nationis of 20 April 1934, as a suffragan of the archdiocese of S. Giovanni di Cuyo. The cathedral is dedicated to the Immaculate Conception.
