SAN LUIGI (SAN LUIS) OF ARGENTINA, DIOCESE OF. – City and diocese of the homonymous province in the Argentine Republic.

It has an area of 70,000 sq. km. with a population of 180,000 inhabitants, of whom 177,300 are Catholics; it comprises 13 parishes, served by 31 diocesan priests and 9 religious; it has a seminary, 2 male religious communities and 7 female ones (Ann. Pont. 1952, p. 357). The diocese was erected by Pope Pius XI with the apostolic constitution Nobilis Argentinae nationis of 20 April 1934, as a suffragan of the archdiocese of S. Giovanni di Cuyo. The cathedral is dedicated to the Immaculate Conception.
