Rosario, Diocese of

ROSARIO, DIOCESI di. — City and diocese in the province of S. Fé in Argentina.

It has an area of 27,437.30 sq. km. and a population of 950,000 inhabitants, of whom 900,000 are Catholics; it has 75 parishes with 113 diocesan priests and 173 religious priests; it has 1 seminary, 29 male and 71 female religious communities (Ann. Pont. 1952, p. 341).

The diocese was created by Pius XI through the apostolic constitution Nobilis Argentinoe nationis of 20 April 1934, by dismemberment from the diocese of S. Fé, elevating the church of the Blessed Virgin Mary to a cathedral with the title of Most Holy Redeemer. It is a suffragan of S. Fé.
