ROSATI, FRANCESCO. - Missionary of St. Vincent de' Paoli, b. in Rome on 12 Aug. 1768, d. at St. Louis (U.S.A.) on 25 Sept. 1843. He entered the Congregation of the Mission on 4 Nov. 1785 and took his vows on 5 Nov. 1787.
He was one of the first missionaries who, in 1815, under the guidance of Felice de Andrei C. M., introduced the Congregation of the Mission into the United States of America. Consecrated bishop in 1827, he was entrusted with the care of the vast diocese of St. Louis, of which he was the first pastor. He was the principal author of the life of the Venerable Felice de Andrei and of the ceremonial for use in the churches of the United States, published by F. Burlando, C. M., in 1865.
