SIOUX CITY, DIOCESI di. - Diocese and city in the State of Iowa (U.S.A.). The diocese of S. C., suffragan of Dubuque, was created by Leo XIII on 15 Jan. 1902 through the division of Dubuque.
The total population of S. C. is 543,664 inhabitants, of whom 84,321 are Catholics scattered over an area of 14,518 miles. There are 192 diocesan priests (17 religious: Congregation of the Precious Blood, Franciscans, Benedictines, Missionaries of La Salette), 145 parishes, 28 chapels, 24 missions, 5 stations, 1 religious seminary, 1 college, 2 orphanages, 7 hospitals, 17 women’s congregations.
